03/04 Season Awards

Thanks to everybody that took part in the voting.

The results were as follows:

Best Team Performance:

The winner of this after a late surge was the fantastic 2:0 win over Alan Pardew's, West Ham United. The leader for the majority of the time was the 2:1 away win over Sheffield United.

Worst Team Performance:

The easy winner of this was the embarrassing 3:0 home defeat to rock bottom Wimbledon, especially after it made it three 3:0 defeats on the trot.

The second worst was the 1:0 defeat to Watford on the last day of the season.

Best New Recruit:

The easy winner of this was Dave Kitson after his move from Cambridge United just before the turn of the year. Since his first goal for the Royals in March away at Cardiff City he has not looked back and great things are expected of him in the next campaign.

You now had to vote for the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and striker

Goalkeeper

Although not starting a game this season till March Jamie Ashdown won 72% of your votes. 

Ashdown had a tremendous end of season with the Royals having some fantastic performances and it will be sad to see him leaving the Royals and heading to the south coast to join Portsmouth.

Defender:

Graeme Murty has another accolade to go with his Player Of The Year award as he won the best Reading defender. He won 78% of the votes with his closest rival to the thrown winning only 11%, which was Ricky Newman.

Midfielder:

Steven Sidwell may have missed of on the Player Of The Year award but he has won the 1871Royals midfielder of the season! Another clear winner as he won just under 90% of the votes.

Striker:

Although missing most of 2004 with injury, Nicky Forster came out as a surprise winner of the striker Of The Season, admittedly it has not been the best year for forwards at Reading but with new faces appearing in 2004 next season should hopefully be a lot better.

Fozzy won 48% of your votes and he will be looking to build on that next season with hopefully being injury free.
