Tommorow (30th September) sees Harriers face Huddersfield Town for the first time ever. Harriers go to the McAlpine Stadium without a win in eight games, not the ideal place to go in search of points at the moment. BIG TEST COMING UP
Harriers face a very difficult task tomorrow as they face one of the favourites for promotion in Huddersfield Town. Even on a good run this would be a big task for Kidder and the fact we are without a win in eight doesn’t help matters. On the other hand, only the most optimistic fan will expect a result and hopefully Huddersfield could totally underestimate us, they that’s optimism for you. Beleaguered manager Ian Britton will be hoping for a much better display than Saturday’s thrashing at Hull City.
So after all of the hype, it is Ian Britton who remains in charge, and according to the local Express and Star newspaper he still has the backing of Chairman Colin Youngjohns. To be honest, I don’t know what to think. After all, what do I know ? And I’m not being funny or evasive on the subject. If pushed I would say give Britt til after the Southend game, then judge him. After all, if we were on a reasonable run going into the Hull and Huddersfield fixtures, they would be two games you would forgive us losing. However, if two defeats against Carlisle and Southend follow, then that’s a different matter.
Then other problem is, who would take over if Britt were to leave ? Many have said names such as Steve Cotterill and of course former managers Graham Allner and Jan Molby. Lets be honest, I doubt any of those would be in line. I doubt Cotterill would take it, Allner has been out of the firing line too long, and as for our beloved Dane/Scouse, I would seriously doubt his ability without any money to spend. And that’s the problem, there isn’t a great pot of dollar to play with. Not for Britt, or if he was to leave, for any replacement. I do have an opinion who I would bring in should the need arise, but until that occasion does arise I will keep it to myself, Britt is still gaffer, and it would be great for all concerned if he can get us out of trouble.
Personally speaking, The Harriers are the Harriers and that’s it for me. I only care for the club, yes some personalities I do like more than others but in the end, whoever is in charge or plays for us gets my support. As I have said before on this site, some blame the board. What for ? Not being rich enough ? Then I’m guilty as well, believe me, there nothing more I would like than to phone the club with great news. “Hello, Col., its KJ, just won the lottery, I’ll be in Monday to sort things out for us, bit busy now with lap dancers”.
With the above in mind I did actually have a flutter on the old lottery on Saturday, but as you can tell I had little luck. On this site I have put in the new poll, which states the main question on everybody’s lips at the moment, the last time I looked the votes weren’t going Britt’s way, click to see how he’s doing. I haven’t voted yet, as I said, I don’t really know. Yes in an ideal world we might get a big name manager to come in and fly us up the league. But that situation doesn’t exist at the moment. So I suppose we’ve got to go with the flow. If we do end up in the Conference, so be it. don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to, but that’s it.
So lets hope things improve, and Britt can sort out the current mess. After all, as Kidder fans we cant moan really can we. The last relegation battle we fought (successfully) was 1991/92 and since then its been largely plain sailing in comparison to some clubs. at times such as these one does tend to get paranoid though. I do keep thinking silly things like: Shrewsbury weren’t a bad team and they went down. Glenn Roeder had a cracking 1st season at West Ham and they went down. The last time we wore white shorts was in 1991-92. then again I said last season, the last time the Space Shuttle crashed we reached a major final in Wales, hoping this would mean a trip to Cardiff last season, and that didn’t happen.
