Harriers next fixture is against old Conference rivals Macclesfield Town on Saturday 13th September. The visit to Moss Rose will see Kidder trying to get back to winning ways, with Harriers last victory being back against Darlington in August.
This week has saw another new arrival at the club. When it was announced that there was to be a new signing most fans expected a striker. However it’s another midfielder in Darren Betts. Betts was at Rochdale this season on a short term deal and in the end turned down an offer from them to join Harriers. Betts started his career at Doncaster Rovers before joining Coventry City. Whilst at the Sky Blues he did gain some first team experience.
So is Britt going for the table football formation ? Well to be honest I was expecting a striker and there is no doubt that we need one. I’m sure Britt knows this too and is probably on the lookout for one as I write this. One interesting development in a chain reaction kind of way today. Walsall have signed Portsmouth’s Dion Burton on loan. Maybe if this becomes permanent we may finally get long term target, Gary Birch. At the moment the forward line seems to be lacking. Last seasons top scorer Bo Henriksen has only managed a couple of goals and one of those was a penalty. Of course Bo missed a pen in our last home game against Oxford and the Dane is in need of a confidence boost. Andy Bishop has only managed one goal to date and he will be looking for an improvement soon, after agreeing another month on loan. The only other striking option at present is veteran John Williams. Maybe he needs to be given a chance from the start. His aerial ability would help Bo. Then maybe bring Bish on later for either of them.
So who will get the nod in the middle of the park, where Britt has plenty to chose from. I would expect a start from new boy Darren Betts and surely Danny Williams would be guaranteed a start. Hopefully Adam Murray will be back this week after missing the Bristol Rovers defeat with illness. That just leaves the wing back positions. Loanee Lloyd Dyer is expected to start on the left so who will get the final midfield slot. Your guess is as good as mine, and people thought Claudio Rannerri had midfield selection headaches. One definite absentee is Adam Willis, where Matt Gadesby should fill in at centre half. Willis is serving a one match ban, after his unfortunate dismissal against Cheltenham.
After the trip to Moss Rose Kidder then have two home games against Lincolnshire sides. Scunthorpe visit Aggborough on Tuesday (16th) at 7.45pm and then Lincoln City come down next Saturday (20th). Lets hope for an improvement. Despite the gloom we are about the same as this time last year points wise. In fact it would be around a year ago that we played Scunthorpe away and got a draw. That game saw the debuts of loan players JJ Melligan and Mark Clyde. From that result, last season really took off with us winning the next game against Southend 2-0. lets hope for a repeat then.
