Manchester United youngster David Jones has left Preston North End early from a loan spell to join Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.

A lifelong fan of the Lancastrian Championship side, Jones has played a key role in Preston’s midfield as manager Billy Davies looks to emulate his tam’s tremendous achievements of reaching the play-off final last season.

"It is a big loss to us and we will have to fill that gap in the transfer window." saud Davies.

"We thank Sir Alex Ferguson and United for allowing him to come to Deepdale this season and wish David all the best for the future."

United felt the highly rated 21-year-old would show greater development as a player if he moved to the Netherlands, and he will now be anxious to impress in Nijmegen.
