Manchester United players have slammed their lacklustre performances last night in the dull goalless draw with Lille in front of an anxious Old Trafford crowd.

Edwin van der Sar and Rio Ferdinand in particular claim the draw was not good enough and need to improve if they want to mount a serious European run.

The Dutchman claimed: "A draw is not good enough. This opposition were organized and worked hard but, with our qualities, we should have got more out of the game. On the performance tonight, we were not entitled to do that."

Rio Ferdinand, who himself was guilty of sloppiness, was also unhappy. He complained: "We didn't produce the chances for any number of reasons tonight. It just didn't run for us. We didn't create opportunities like we have been lately and we'd like to finish that and change that on Saturday."

Meanwhile, Ryan Giggs fractured a cheek-bone in the game.
