Wayne Rooney has picked up a two-game European suspension for his foolish actions in United's recent Champions League clash against Villareal. The teenager's temperament is very much in question after his behaviour in recent weeks. Wayne Rooney has been handed a shock two-match European ban, with European’s footballing governing body Uefa coming down hard on the teenager after his foolish antics against Villareal.

Referee Kim Milton Nielsen showed no hesitation in sending off the forward after he sarcastically clapped the official following a caution for a challenge. The 19-year-old’s temperament is now in serious question, particularly after he seemed to direct abuse towards David Beckham during England’s 1-0 defeat in Belfast.

A statement from Uefa read: "Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney will miss the club's next two Uefa Champions League matches after his sending-off at Villarreal."

"The referee considered this dissent and also reported in his post-match report that Rooney swore at him as he left the field."

Rooney is already facing an international ban after his booking against Northern Ireland, missing England’s qualifier against Austria.

United must now decide whether or not to contest the decision. At the moment, Rooney will miss crucial Champions League ties with Benfica on 27 September and Lille on 18 October, both of which are at Old Trafford.
