Kieran Richardson insists he must be involved in regular first-team action for the Red Devils to cement a place in Sven Goran Eriksson's select ahead of the World Cup this summer. Ruud van Nistelrooy has reiterated his intentions to stay at Old Trafford despite tempting links to La Liga giants Barcelona and Real

Richardson hopes he can book his ticket to Germany with the England side, who are a few points off qualifying, and take his chances as a Red Devil.

The 20-year-old scored for United in their Champions League qualifier against Debrecen recently and came on as a substitute for England at the weekend against Wales.

Richardson made his name on the international circuit following an impressive loan-spell with West Brom and scored twice in England's tour of America in the summer. He stated: "You have to be playing regular first-team football to really have a chance for England.

"At the moment I’m not really playing regular club football, but it’s a long season so I am hoping that my chances will come.

"When you are called into the team you have got to be ready. And I will be.

"I’d like to be involved because the World Cup is coming up next summer. But all I want to do is play for Manchester United at the moment, because if I start playing well for my club then chances with England will follow."
