Gary Neville will miss 5 weeks of action, including England's World Cup Qualifiers with Wales and Northern Ireland due to a torn groin muscle.
Neville picked up the injury just 13 minutes into
United's Champions League Qualifier with Debrecen in Hungary, a game where the
Red Devils ran out 3-0 winners.
Sir Alex Ferguson is blaming the dug-up pitch but believes he has enough cover. He said: "It was a typical groin injury you suffer on pitches like that. It was a soft surface which is unusual for this time of year that contributed to the problem.
"Gary's experience is vital to us. He has been such an important player over the year for us.
"But I believe we have adequate cover."
Gabriel Heinze scored two goals in each half as Kieran Richardson secured the win in the middle of the second half.
