ManUtdWeb 'Player of the Season' Gabriel Heinze is delighted with his first season at Old Trafford, having established himself as one of the key players in the Manchester United line-up and also built-up a strong rapport with supporters.

Heinze has impressed since his £6.9million move from PSG just before the start of last season. His aggression, consistency and versatility helped him become of the top performing defenders across Europe last season.

"I have had a very good year and once I got into the team I played nearly every match as a left-back. I was well received." said a delighted Heinze, who has helped take Argentina into the final of the Confederations Cup.

The 27-year-old believes that Sir Alex Ferguson has helped greatly in his opening season success, and he has repeatedly heaped praise on the Scotsman. The pair's relationship got off to a frosty start when the South American opted to play in the Olympic Games for Argentina and miss part of the Premiership season, but things have improved significantly.

"Sir Alex Ferguson has always been very good and respectful towards me. My relationship with him his much better than my ex-boss Vahid Halilhodzic at PSG, did not do well in Paris because of his character. He only thought of himself, not about the club."
