PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Heurelho de Silva Gomes has emerged as Sir Alex Ferguson's prime target for the summer to solve the goalkeeper crisis.

Gomes, who moved to Europe in the summer from Brazilian side Cruzeiro, has been outstanding in PSV's surge to the top of the Dutch Eredivisie having been kept out of the loop by Ajax these past few seasons.

Guus Hiddink's side are 14 points clear of Ajax, who sit in 2nd position. PSV also booked their place in the Champions League Semi Final after their penalty shoot-out triumph over Lyon, a game where Gomes dazzled.

Scouts traveled to that game to keep tabs on Lyon midfielder Michael Essien, but Gomes was the player that scout their eye.

If Hiddink were to receive a decent offer, he would be forced to accept it as the shot-stopper proved a summer bargain.

Gomes would also seem a cheaper option than other goalkeeper linked with the Red Devils including Tottenham Hotspur's Paul Robinson. Chief Executive David Gill already confirmed there will be little money for Sir Alex Ferguson to spend this summer.
