Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze has conceded that he can perform to a higher standard and will strive to work harder for the team's cause.

The Argentine has been a revolutionary signing, adapting surprisingly well to life in England following his summer move from French side Paris Saint Germain.

Fans questioned the player's motives at the start of the season, prolonging his Red Devils debut to win a Gold Medal with his country at the Olympic Games in Athens.

But, Heinze's commitment and no-nonsense attitude clearly pleased the Old Trafford faithful and admitted he can produce more. "I want to emphasise this is just the beginning. What has happened so far is fantastic but I have much more work to do yet, as hopefully the supporters will see"
