German goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler was at Old Trafford today to put pen-to-paper on a on a scholarship scheme. The 16-year-old signed a three-year-deal back in August to confirm his transfer from FC Cologne to United. Hobbs in Trouble

German goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler was at Old Trafford today to put pen-to-paper on a on a scholarship scheme after penning a three year contract with the Red Devils in August.

The highly-rated 16-year-old impressed scouts present at a youth tournament held at Carrington last season and acted immediately to sign Zieler from Bundesliga side FC Cologne.

The 'keeper is delighted moving to England, and playing for 'a world-class club'. "It is a great feeling," he said "Something entirely special"

"I have already been very impressed. I saw many pros like striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and also coach Alex Ferguson"

"I will be in good hands. I have the ambition, the discipline and, in addition, the will"

He added: "Money played no role in my decision. I only want to play football"

With question marks over United's two first-choice goalkeepers at the moment, Zieler may be handed a chance in-between the sticks within the next few seasons.
