Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard has insisted that he is not a quitter and will once-again challenge Roy Carroll for a permanent place in-between the sticks.

Sir Alex Ferguson has yet to put full-faith in Northern Ireland shot-stopper Carroll, something Howard aims take full advantage of, and relish any opportunity given in goals.

USA international Howard also refused to rule out forgotten Spaniard Ricardo out of the race for 'Old Trafford's No.1' tag.

The 25-year-old has made costly high-profile blunders since his move from American outfit MetroStars in the summer of 2003 and nearly filled the massive void Peter Schmeichel left when he retired a few seasons back.

The League Cup and FA Cup have been the only competitions Howard has been involved in recently, but has firmly stated he is going to put up a fight. "I am frustrated that I am not playing. I suppose it would be easy to leave, but that would be cowardice."

"In terms of staying and fighting for my place, it is easy - I am going to fight. I enjoy the challenge of improving and doing well and I plan on staying."

Regarding the relationship between himself, Roy Carroll and Ricardo, he added: "There is an intensity between the three of us"
