Manchester United defender Wes Brown has emerged as Charlton Athletic's top-target when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.

Addicks boss Alan Curbishley is reportedly a keen admirer of Brown after watching the 25-year-old in recent training sessions whilst preparing for England's international friendly with Holland last week.

Brown was one of England's best players during the 0-0 stalemate at Villa Park having been called up on the 11th hour following injuries to Ledley King, Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell and John Terry.

Curbishley failed to strengthen his squad during the January Sales and is perhaps accumulating as much money as possible to launch audacious attempts in the summer. Brown's price tag is believed to be around £4 million.

Rio Ferdinand and Mikael Silvestre have created a fine defensive pairing for United, leaving Brown to watch most games from the bench. 

Charlton have been on the verge of Europe for the past few seasons and currently sit comfortably in 8th position in the Premiership.

Luke Gabriel, Webmaster of SportNetwork's Charlton Athletic Site, is backing every attempt to sign Brown: I feel that given Fortune's displays this campaign at center back, I more then welcome the signing of Wes Brown. Although, I do believe Curbishley is creating a stock pile of center backs with other players such as Talal el Karkouri, Chris Perry and Mark Fish. Only time will tell if Wes Brown is up for the Valley challenge!
