Sir Alex Ferguson has slammed claims that Chelsea will sweep the board and win the Quadruple this season. The Manchester United manager remains adamant his side’s Treble of 1999 will not be beaten by the Londoners. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is certain his side’s treble winning success of 1999 will not be beaten by big-spending Chelsea, who are aiming to add four trophies to their Stamford Bridge cabinet by the end of the season.

After a silverware-free season at the Bridge, Roman Abramovich put his hands in his pockets once again at the start of the season to further strengthen a star-studded squad that already looks well on its way to Premiership glory. The Londoners are aiming to win the F.A Cup, League cup and European Cup in addition to the league this season, but Fergie has slammed any chance Jose Mourinho has of such an incredible achievement.

"No chance of a quadruple," said Sir Alex, with the two teams set to do battle in the semi-finals of the Carling-sponsored League Cup.

"You need a lot of luck. When we won the treble in 1999, we had only one player missing from the European Cup final with injury and that was Henning Berg. Everyone else remained fit in that run-in.”

Chelsea are already 11 points out of sight of the Red Devils in the league. On top of their fantastic Premiership form they are in the fourth round of the F.A Cup after beating Scunthorpe United and are going well in Europe. Punters are already splashing out on all four trophies landing on the lap of Mourinho this term.

"Any changes we made were because we wanted to make the change. You need a hell of a good squad. You need them all, but particularly your main players.

"The treble is more feasible but still very difficult to think it could be done again."
