Ruud van Nistelrooy will be ruled out of action for six to eight weeks with a niggling calf problem, according to boss Sir Alex Ferguson. Ruud Suffers Injury Setback 

Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will be ruled out of action for at least six to eight weeks with a niggling calf problem, according to boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Scotsman Ferguson is worried that van Nistelrooy's original calf-strain will venture down into the Dutchman's achilles so has organized a 2-month plan in order to help the Holland international reach full-fitness in time for February's Champions League clash with AC Milan.

The 28-year-old however will be covered well up-front by with likes of Wayne Rooney, Alan Smith and Louis Saha.

Speaking about the injury, Ferguson said: "We have said it is a six to eight-week programme we have got for him. We don't want to force him into a situation when we don't need to and hopefully we can have him ready for the AC Milan games." 

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gabriel Heinze will return to action on Boxing Day against Bolton Wanderers following a short Christmas break.
