A committed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has vowed he will be back in Manchester United action, despite recovering from a second bout of surgery to a career-threatening knee injury. The forward wants to win more silverware at Old Trafford, and aims to return to full fitness for the start of next season.

Manchester United fan favourite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident is career is far from over despite undergoing a second bout of surgery on a horrific injury which has held back the versatile forward throughout his Old Trafford spell.

 

The Norwegian international is planning to be back in action for next season’s pre-season friendlies, and is dreaming of helping the Red Devils to further trophy success. Solskjaer netted the winning goal of the 1999 European Cup final, and would love to be involved in more domestic and European success with United.

"You always need dreams and my dream is to lift a trophy again with Manchester United," Solskjaer told Manchester United Radio.

"I am starting from scratch and I know I have to do everything right because the goal at the end is such a massive one.

"But at the end of this season I will be looking forward to the new campaign.

"It feels like this is the start of the rest of my career - and that is going to be at United."

Although he probably has never had the ability to be classed as a ‘world great’, Solskjaer is the favourite player of many United fans for his commitment and effort to the cause. He has always been happy to carry the ‘super sub’ tag, regularly missing out on the starting XI countless times, and his eagerness to fight back from this injury shows his passion for Manchester United.

However, when Solskjaer returns he can expect a real battle to get into first-team contention. Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Alan Smith, Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha all ahead of the forward in the picking order, and with youngsters such as Giuseppe Rossi coming through the ranks it will be tough for Solskjaer, who can also play on the right-flank of midfield.
