Crystal Palace make the trip to Old Trafford for Wednesday night's Carling Cup 4th round tie with Manchester United, who are set to parade their next generation of youth. Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has always used The League Cup, or Carling Cup as it's commercially known, as a showcase to show-off his new array of superstars and may prove no different tomorrow night. Despite a dodgy start, Premiership newcomers Crystal Palace have been one of the surprise packages of the Premiership so far this term. Iain Dowie's Palace side have only just found their feet in the Premiership however, proving the best out of the 2 other promoted sides this season, Norwich and West Brom. Selhurst Park's hero Andy Johnson has been on fine goalscoring form recently, earning rave reviews that indicate he is ready to make the step up to international level. Much to the United defenders' delight, Johnson is likely to be given a break. Wayne Routledge, Vassilis Lakis, Gonzalo Sorondo and
former Southampton man Fitz Hall are all ruled out with injury. Tim Howard may make a return in-between the sticks whilst the likes of Eric Djemba-Djemba and Kleberson are almost positive to feature. One man who'll be gaining something
from this game is Phil Neville, who has had a quiet season. The younger of
the two Nevilles had this to say: "I played against Arsenal and Portsmouth and thought I did okay but I found myself off the team again." ManUtdWeb Prediction: United 1 - 0 Palace - The Red Devils need this win more than The Eagles. United are in need of a major morale booster to hopefully kick-start a string of wins and this is the perfect competition to begin. |
