Manchester United defender Wes Brown has committed his future to The Red Devils by signing a new contract that is due to expire in the summer of 2008.

There has been a huge question mark over the future of the England capped defender, but has rubbished rumours quoting he was unhappy by finally agreeing a contract deal at Old Trafford.

A number of Premiership clubs such as Newcastle and Blackburn Rovers were believed to have shown interest in Brown but will remain as a United player, much to the delight of the United faithful.

Brown admitted after he penned the deal: "I've always wanted to stay at Manchester United, I've grown up here, I've developed my career here and I'm delighted to be staying."

"United is the best club in the world and I want to continue being a part of that."

He added: "I am looking forward to winning more trophies and competing in the best tournaments." 

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson expressed his sheer joy that Brown finally signed-on, saying: "I have known Wes since he was 13 years old and have watched and seen him grow into a splendid young man.

"I couldn't bare to lose him, I didn't want to lose him. I am thrilled that Wes has decided to commit his future here and I hope that he will enjoy his career at Manchester United,"
