Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he 'wouldn't be doing his job properly' if he were to ignore his team's first-half performance in Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw to Lyon. Ruud van Nistelrooy had to pull 2 goals back at half-time to earn United a point. Hobbs in Trouble

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he 'wouldn't be doing his job properly' if he were to ignore his team's dismal first-half performance in Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw away to Olympique Lyonnais.

The Red Devils conceded 2 sloppy goals in the opening 45 minutes in France but hit-back with 2 goals in 5 minutes, thanks to Ruud van Nistelrooy.

"I don't think you can ignore what happened in the first-half. I wouldn't be doing my job properly if I did that." said Ferguson.

He added: "At half-time, I was terribly disappointed with some elements of our game. We had to change and in fairness to the players they did play with more intent."

"We had to defend further up the field and our passing of the ball could have been better. To be fair to the players, it did improve in both cases."

The Scotsman also revealed only 3 players matched the standards he expected on the field. "I could only say we had three performers who
reached the standard we are looking for - Gabriel Heinze, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo."

"In that situation we have to be happy with a 2-2 draw.''
