Real Madrid winger Santiago Scolari has revealed that he subbed a move to Old Trafford to remain at Real Madrid and take his chance with new-boss Jose Antonio Camacho.

Argentine Scolari is a traditional wide man who operates on the left and could be foreseen as a potential replacement for the aging Ryan Giggs down the left flank.

"It is true that Manchester United were interested in me and there was I chance I would leave," Solari revealed to a Spanish newspaper.

"However, by playing me for 10 minutes against Wisla, Camacho and the club showed that I am still important to Real Madrid."

He added: "A year in football is an eternity and many things can happen. Nothing can ever be said with certainty, nor about where you are going to be.

"I am contracted to this team until June 30 2005 and I don't imagine myself in another team in the future, even though I know I could be transferred."

Scolari isn't the only wide-man to have been linked with the Red Devils. Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart has been linked, so to has now Blackburn winger Morten Gamst Pedersen.
