Smith, a £7 million summer signing from Leeds United, was unfortunate not to make the squad for the European Championships in Portugal last month but looks to get back on the international scene after a long absence.

The 24-year old has represented the Three Lions on eight occasions, netting on his debut against Portugal in 2002 and also has 10 U21 caps to his name.

Gary Neville joins team-mate Smith in the squad along with former Red Devil Nicky Butt, who will likely start his first international game with a new club at his new home - Newcastle's St. James' Park.

Opponents Ukraine will be a tough obstacle for England to hurdle and, with the World Cup qualifiers looming, will prove good opposition for the Eriksson's men.
