Auxerre Boss Reveals Mexes Snub

Manager of French outfit Auxerre, Guy Roux, has exposed that highly regarded French defender Phillipe Mexes has turned down a move to Old Trafford in favour of Italian side AS Roma. Mexes, 22, has been capped at international level and wants to move away from Stade de L'Appe-Deschamps. Hobbs in Trouble

Manager of French outfit Auxerre, Guy Roux, has exposed that highly regarded French defender Phillipe Mexes has turned down a move to Old Trafford in favour of Italian side AS Roma.

Mexes, 22, has been capped at international level and wants to move away from Stade de L'Appe-Deschamps in order to play a higher level of football, preferably in Italy or Spain.

"Philippe's agents refused <United's offer>," Roux revealed.

"They were not sure he would play. With Roma, there is still a gap,"

Having secured the services of PSG defender Gabriel Heinze earlier today, Mexes seemed to be acting as a probable back-up net if the Heinze deal fell through.
