Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been assured that he will be the main striker for Holland in this Euro 2004 campaign and will start ahead of Patrick Kluivert.

Dutch manager Dick Advocaat has made a decision to put United's prolific striker up-front alone with support of two attacking midfield wingers supporting the no.10.

The conclusion to axe the Van Nistelrooy - Kluivert partnership came after a string of unsuccessful games together in the attacking line of Advocaat's artillery.

"I played Kluivert because he was good in practice, but some players are good in practice and not in matches. Van Nistelrooy is certainly good in matches," confirmed the former Rangers coach.

Meanwhile, Van Nistelrooy has confirmed he's feeling fit and ready to go and is ready to give his all in Portugal. "I actually am surprised how fit I feel, particularly after a long season in England. All I can say is that I'm ready to play."
