French Defender Linked With United
Frenchman Eric Abidal is the latest defender to be linked with Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to tighten his defence for next season.

Abidal, 24, has been the rock at the heart of Lille's defence this season and also been one of the most consistent players in the French Le Championnat this term.

Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly sent scouts to Stade Grimonprez -Jooris to watch the former French U21 star shine in Lille's 2-0 win over Bastia yesterday.

After impressing Lille boss Phillpe Lambert on a loan-spell last season, Lambert was quick off the mark to sign Abidal and keep him away from the likes of Fulham, PSV Eindhoven and AC Milan - who were all interested.
