United defender Quinton Fortune hobbled off the Carrington training ground on Friday evening on crutches and now looks set to miss Saturday’s F.A Cup quarter-final clash against Fulham. This means Sir Alex Ferguson finds his defence at full stretch for Saturday's game at Old Trafford. The South African international limped off the training field on Friday and visited hospital soon after to get the leg injury checked out.

Fortune had been expected to play at left-back for the visit of the Cottagers to Old Trafford, but he will now almost certainly miss the match against a Fulham side who won in Manchester earlier in the season.

Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand are already suspended, and with Mikael Silvestre ruled out with an injury, Sir Alex Ferguson will have to field a makeshift defence. Roy Keane now looks set to partner off-form Wes Brown at the heart of the United defence, with Phillip Neville and John O’Shea at full-back.
