Manchester United have to finally offloaded out of favor French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez to French outfit Marseilles on a loan deal. The eccentric World Cup winner has been a forgotten man since the arrival of Tim Howard and Sir Alex Ferguson favors Roy Carroll as No2 rather than Barthez. Hobbs in Trouble

Manchester United have to finally offloaded out-of-favor French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez to French outfit Marseilles on loan until the end of the season.

The eccentric World Cup winner has been a forgotten man since the arrival of American Tim Howard and Sir Alex Ferguson favors Roy Carroll as No.2 rather than Barthez.

Marseilles confirmed the move this morning, saying:  "The contract has been validated today by the French league. The French Federation has received all the official documents from the English Federation.

"Fabien will be able to make his comeback on Saturday at the Stade Velodrome for our French Cup first round match against Strasbourg"

The reason why Barthez was so eager to move is not to lose his place in the French national team. Euro 2004 is looming and Barthez wants to be France's No.1.

Barthez isn't the only goalkeeper from United to be loaned out. Another forgotten man, Ricardo, has been loaned out to Spanish side Racing until the end of the season.
