Rio Banned For 8 Months!
Manchester United's record £30million signing has been banned for an incredible 8 months after missing a random drugs test. It is now up to United to appeal the ban which will start on January 12th.

The Manchester United center-back will put Rio out out of action for the rest of the season and will make him unavailable for England's EURO 2004 campaign in Portugal.

Ferdinand was made to undergo a random drugs test at United's training ground Carrington on September 23rd but failed to turn up.

Football related stars such as United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, unsettled United midfielder Nicky Butt and Manchester City midfielder Eyal Berkovic all turned up to Bolton's Reebok Stadium to give evidence and support Ferdinand in the tribunal. Rio's ex-West Ham manager Harry Redknapp and England manager Svan Goren-Eriksson sent in written statements to back-up Ferdinand.

The England international's legal team now have 16 days to appeal and has been punished even more with a £50,000 fine.
