Robson wants United Post

Former United star Bryan Robson is urging Sir Alex Ferguson to pick him as his new assistant.

The United boss has been looking for a new right hand man, since Carlos Querioz’s departure for Real Madrid last month.

Many names have been thrown up for the job, but Ferguson admitted his number one choice would be Mark Hughes.

The Wales boss though, is adamant he will see out his contract with the Welsh F.A, and Fergie would have to look elsewhere for his new assistant.

"Alex Ferguson knows all about me so I would always leave it up to him to make the first move," said Robson.

"I have been doing a lot of coaching for the past year but now I want to get in the firing line as an assistant or as manager."

Robson has been out of a job since being sacked by Middlesbrough two years ago, despite being linked with many managerial posts.

Robson would undoubtedly be a popular choice amongst supporters, after a legendary career at Old Trafford as a player.

Should Robson get the job, it could potentially open the door for him to be the United boss when Fergie retires.
