Roche Signs for Burnley

Roche left Old Trafford shortly after the season had ended after being released by the club, who believed it would be better for his career if he moved on.

The 22-year-old made only two appearances for United last season, both as substitutes against Newcastle United in the Premiership and Deportivo in the Champions League.

His United debut came in November 2001, in the disappointing 4-0 League Cup defeat at the hands of Arsenal.

During his time at United he spent a season on loan with Wrexham. He made 45 appearances for the North-Wales outfit, and helped them to Cup glory in the FAW Premier Cup. His award of the 'Young Player of the Season' trophy at the Racecourse was evidence of what a bright prospect he was.

The loan spell with the North-Wales outfit saw him make real progress as a player, and he was seen to have the potential to make it at Old Trafford. Sadly, he never managed to break into the first team and leaving the club was best for his career.

Burnley boss Stan Ternent is delighted with the signing, and is confident Roche can make a real impact for the Clarets.

"The gaffer is delighted with the signing," said Ternent.

"He's a good player and we wouldn't have signed him if he wasn't.

"We've always had a lot of experience in the club, but a sprinkling of youth never hurts."
