A speech from Wayne Rooney about qualification for the Champions League offered huge motivation to Manchester United's players ahead of Sunday's win, according to goalscorer Marouane Fellaini.

The Red Devils produced one of their displays of the season with Michael Carrick and Rooney also on the scoresheet in a 3-0 win.

United's convincing, commanding performance emphasised the team's credentials for a Champions League spot - and Fellaini has revealed that a speech from skipper Rooney spurred the team on.

After the game, he said: "I think last night the captain talked to the team about next season for the Champions League. "I think it affected the team and I think it was an important speech."

United will be looking to produce another display next weekend in another crucial encounter in the race for the top four, against Liverpool at Anfield.
