The Red Devils returned to winning ways and extended their unbeaten run to eight matches with a comfortable 3-1 Boxing Day victory over Newcastle United.

Wayne Rooney grabbed a first-half brace and RVP continued his recent good form with the third as United brushed aside the Magpies in this festive encounter.

A moment of magic from Falcao created Rooney's opener, as he skilfully slid to turn Mata's deep cross into the path of the England frontman, who fired home with the goal at his mercy.

Mata and Rooney then combined for the second, before United's captain turned provider, with RVP turning home his cross from yards out.

The visitors gained meagre consolation in the closing stages as Papiss Cisse scored from the penalty spot, but it was too late for the Toon to prevent a fourth straight defeat.
