Wilkins set to lead Jordan from October

Former Manchester United boss Ray Wilkins has been appointed manager of the Jordan national team, with his first game in charge set for October 11th against Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

he 57-year-old was recently assistant boss to ex-MUFC coach Rene Meulensteen at Fulham.

He has held various coaching, caretaker and deputy roles, but this is first foray in the managerial hot seat since being sacked as Fulham boss in 1998.

Wilkins has agreed a five-month deal to manage the country, in an appointment made by Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein, president of Jordan's Football Association.

The five-month stint encompasses the Asian Cup, which Wilkins will tackle with the help of assistant boss Frank Stapleton.

Jordan came close to qualifying for the 2014 World Cup - missing out in the play-offs, following a 0-0 draw and 5-0 defeat at the hands of Uruguay.

Wilkins was with United between 1979 and 1984, during which time he made 196 appearances for the club before joining Milan.
