United lose again - is Moyes facing axe?

Goodbye?

David Moyes' future at Old Trafford is thought to be in serious danger after his side slipped to yet another league defeat - with his ex-club Everton too comfortable in a 2-0 win over last season's Champions of England.

The Toffees have not achieved a league double over Manchester United since 1970.

At that time, Wilf McGuinness was in the Old Trafford hot seat, having succeeded Sir Matt Busby as United boss the previous year. McGuinness' tenure ended with his sacking after a series of disappointing results. If intense speculation is to be believed, a similar fate could be about to beset David Moyes.

Rumours claim United are set to part company with Moyes before the end of the season after his side slid to an eleventh league defeat of the season.

Despite enjoying long spells of possession, United were second best in almost all departments on Sunday as the Toffees kept alive hopes of Champions League qualification with an all too comfortable victory.

Leighton Baines broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after Phil Jones handled Romelu Lukaku's shot, and United rarely looked like getting back into proceedings.

The hosts doubled their lead two minutes before the interval. The excellent Seamus Coleman tore apart United's defence with a fine pass, latched onto by Kevin Mirallas who fired a composed finish beyond David de Gea.

Moyes' half-time team talk failed to inspire the troops as Everton comfortably kept their advantage and often threatened a third goal. United did come close when Tim Howard denied Wayne Rooney with a fine late save - but it was too little, too late for the Red Devils.

Worryingly, the players seemed to lack belief at Goodison Park and let the fans down with a lacklustre display. It is claimed Moyes may now be about to be shown the exit door - and, sadly, a sorry loss against his former club sums up his miserable tenure as United boss.

Is this the end of the road for the Chosen One?
