Red Rebels bounce back with festive win at Buxton

FC United of Manchester bounced back from their Boxing Day defeat at Ashton United with a 2-0 win at Buxton on Saturday.

Karl Marginson’s men saw a 10-match unbeaten run grind to a halt on Thursday, but they returned to winning ways on Saturday thanks to two goals in two second-half minutes.

Buxton enjoyed much of the better of the first-half exchanges, and the travelling Red Rebels would have felt fortunate to go in at the interval with the scores level.

However, Marginson’s men took their chances when they arrived, and broke the deadlock on 51 minutes through Matthew Wolfenden, before striker Mike Norton doubled the advantage moments later.

In the hunt for promotion to the Conference North, FCUM currently sit in a play-off spot, occupying fourth place in the table, sitting nine points behind leaders Skelmersdale United.
