Misery for Moyes as Berahino help Baggies win at OT

Manchester United suffered their first ever Premier League defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon, despite Wayne Rooney's second-half strike. David Moyes' difficult start to life at Old Trafford continues as goals from Morgan Amalfitano and Saido Berahino handed the visitors maximum points.

Moyes faced a torrid few days of media coverage as defeat condemned United to their poorest start to a league campaign since 1989.
 
Having recovered from the Manchester derby shocker with a League Cup victory over Liverpool, United fans were in an expectant mood. The Baggies, however, had other ideas as they produced a fine display to climb above United in the Premier League table.
 
The home side struggled in the final third all afternoon - and it was West Brom who broke the deadlock on 54 minutes. Amalfitano charged through United's backline, before fooling David De Gea with a dummy shot and chipping an effort into the back of the net.
 
Wayne Rooney's unpredictable free-kick ensured the lead last only three minutes, however. His inswinging effort beat everyone in the box, including visiting goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.
 
Steve Clarke's men, however, quickly struck back. Jonas Olsson hit the crossbar, before moments later Saido Berahino drilled a low drive beyond the reach of De Gea, to spark wild celebrations in the away end.
 
United threatened a late equaliser - and Marouane Fellaini had a goal ruled out; but the Red Devils lacked tenacity in attack. West Brom held on for a famous three points, whilst United slump to a third league defeat from six.
 
Attentions now turn to the Champions League with an away trip to Shakhtar Donetsk next up, before United head to the Staidum of Light to face Paulo Di Canio-less Sunderland.
