Manchester United have opted not to compete in a new Under-21 Premier Cup competition, established by the Premier League.

The competition was set-up to give younger players the opportunity to play in more competitive matches, but the Red Devils have declined the invitation.

Matches in the new tournament will be played on a regional basis until the Round of 16.

The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have opted to enter the inaugural competition.

Warren Joyce's Under-21 side claimed the Professional Development League One crown last season, whilst a young United side also scooped the Lancashire Senior Cup and Manchester Senior Cup in 2013.
