Making his first appearance since his big-money, deadline-day move to Old Trafford, Marouane Fellaini played 68 minutes and was booked as Belgium claimed a vital 2-0 victory over Scotland at Hampden Park.

Goals from Steven Defour and Kevin Mirallas ensured that Belgium claimed the double over Scotland, leaving them sitting five points clear of Croatia at the top of Group D.

Meanwhile, Gordon Strachan’s side, who struggled to carve out chances, sit rock bottom of the Group after a dour qualification campaign thus far.

United midfielder Fellaini was involved in the build-up to the first goal, finding Kevin De Bruyne who supplied Defour for the opener. The former Everton man had earlier been booked for a challenge on Charlie Mulgrew.

Belgium can wrap up a place at the 2014 World Cup should they avoid defeat in Croatia on October 11th.

Elsewhere, Wales slipped to a 2-1 defeat in Macedona despite Aaron Ramsay’s penalty, whilst Serbia and Croatia drew 1-1 in Belgrade.
