Javier Hernandez scored a last-gasp winner as Manchester United beat Newcastle 4-3 in an incredible Boxing Day encounter at Old Trafford. The Red Devils came from behind on three occasions, with goals from Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Robin van Persie and Hernandez ultimately ensuring that United opened up an impressive seven point lead at the top of the league table.
United again proved comeback kings as the Red Army were treated to a festive cracker at the Theatre of Dreams.
James Perch’s early effort was cancelled out after Evans turned home from close range. However, the Northern Irish defender went from hero to villain as he turned into his own net, ensuring the travelling Magpies held a slender lead at the break.
Patrice Evra pulled United level with a low strike 13 minutes after the restart, but a superb goal from Papiss Cisse put Newcastle ahead for a third time, to the delight of the travelling Barcodes.
However, United fought back yet again – and goals from Van Persie and Hernandez ensured a phenomenal win for Sir Alex Ferguson’s me. The Dutchman’s drive beat Tim Krul, before Chicharito did well to meat Michael Carrick’s fine cross with the winning goal.
