RVP's late winner seals derby win at Eastlands

Manchester United claimed a famous Premier League win at Eastlands thanks to Robin van Persie's late free-kick. The Dutchman's strike right in front of the travelling fans gave United maximum points after City had fought back from two goals down.

Sir Alex Ferguson's hopes of winning the Premier League crown were given a massive boost at Eastlands as United secured a superb 3-2 victory, with the Red Devils opening up an impressive six-point lead over their fierce city rivals. 
 
Two first-half goals from Wayne Rooney gave United a big lead at the break, but Roberto Macini's men looked to have rescued a point thanks to goals from Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta.
 
Sadly, a memorable United win was marred by crowd problems. United defender Rio Ferdinand was struck by a coin as he celebrated his side's late winner.
 
The deadlock was broken after 16 minutes as Rooney's scuffed, but impressive shot crept into the corner of Joe Hart's goal. Thirteen minutes later, he was on target again as he turned home a Rafael cross to bag his tenth Manchester derby goal.
 
However, the hosts improved after the interval and looked to be heading for a point. Toure reduced the deficit on an hour, and parity was restored with only minutes remaining as United failed to properly clear Carlos Tevez's corner and Zabaleta fired home from the edge of box.
 
The contest had a further twist - and United snatched a trademark winning goal in injury-time.

Ex-Red Tevez, who had helped City get back into the game after replacing the poor Mario Ballotelli, fouled Rafael. From the resulting free-kick, van Persie's effort was deflected and found its way past Hart. A famous late strike.
