Manchester United are interested in signing FC Basel’s Granit Xhaka, according to The People. The Red Devils have been linked with a £3.5million move for the promising midfield talent, though a host of other top European clubs are also thought to be interested.
19-year-old Xhaka is widely regarded as an excellent prospect for the future and is thought to be attracting interest from Old Trafford, having helped Basel to the Swiss Super League title last season.
The player was in action against United earlier this season in the Champions League, as his Basel side helped to dump the Red Devils out of the competition with a 2-1 win in Switzerland.
He has already made six Switzerland appearances, after making his international debut against England in June 2011. His first international goal came against Luxembourg.
AC Milan and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the player’s services, and with both clubs still in the Champions League, could provide fierce competition for his signature.
Speculation suggests that Xhaka has a £3.5million release clause in his contract – meaning potential suitors could be lining up to offer the player impressive personal terms.
