Staying put

Dimitar Berbatov is expected to stay at Old Trafford as transfer deadline-day looms. Reports now suggest that interested French club Paris St Germain have been told they have no chance of signing the Bulgarian frontman this summer. 

Berbatov was expected to leave Old Trafford after the summer months after playing no part in United's Champions League final defeat.

The £30.75million man scored 22 times for United last term, but was left furious after being frozen out of United's squad for the game against Barcelona at Wembley last May. 

PSG were thought to be leading the race for the towering forward, but coach Leonardo has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson has told him the player is not for sale.

He said: "I had Ferguson on the phone but he said he was counting on Berbatov and he was not for sale,"

Berbatov, however, faces a battle for first-team football this season.

Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez seem to be Ferguson's preferred strike partnership, whilst Danny Welbeck has been selected ahead of Berbatov so far this season. 

He was an unused substitute during the 3-0 win over Spurs and watched from the sidelines as Welbeck scored one and made another. 

The 30-year-old Berbatov is two goals away from taking his goalscoring tally with United to the half-century mark.
