Rooney bags hat-trick in amazing United comeback

Hat-trick goal

Wayne Rooney bagged a memorable hat-trick as United claimed a jaw-dropping comeback at Upton Park on Saturday, winning 4-2. Trailing 2-0 at the break following two Mark Noble penalties, Rooney struck three times in 13 minutes as United took a huge step towards winning this season’s Premier League title.

Having taken a 4-0 hammering at West Ham earlier in the season, United looked on course for another heavy defeat after the game’s opening 25 minutes.

Despite dominating the game for long periods, United found themselves two goals down thanks to a brace of penalties from Noble.

The first came after 11 minutes following Partrice Evra's handball, whilst Nemanja Vidic gave the second away on 25 minutes after tripping Carlton Cole.

Relegation-threatened West Ham were not worthy of their two-goal lead, but were bookies favourites to win the game at the break thanks to a Noble’s penalty double.

United, however, claimed a trademark comeback which started with only 25 minutes to play.

Rooney, who had been quiet in the first-half, dispatched a beautiful free-kick beyond the reach of Green before meeting Antonio Valencia's cross with a fine finish only eight minutes later.

The England frontman bagged himself the match-ball minutes later from the penalty spot. Fabio's cross hit centre-half Mark Upson on the arm and referee Lee Mason harshly awarded a spot-kick, which was duly dispatched by a delighted Rooney.

Shell-shocked West Ham never looked able to muster an equaliser, and the result was put beyond doubt when Javier Hernandez made it four for the visitors.

Fantastic comeback from two shell shocking events of penalties.... we had i think 11 corners in the first half alone!!!

Rooney looked so so so uninterested in the first half, SAF musta given him a proper rollicking, thank god!

Why did we start with just 1 up top? Im baffled.

Played a semi strong midfield where we could have started Berba and Nani and left Park and Giggs on the bench??

Anyway. another VITAL three points on the road to the title.

GET IN!!!!

Even at 2-0 down I was very confident we'd come back and win in the second half (we've seen it countless times in the past)...

I was say nerves started creeping in when it was still 2-0 after 65 minutes, so I am extremely happy for the next 15 minutes.

Other results went our way, with Arsenal drawing. Now the title is ours to lose. The next 3 league matches is where the title could be won, if we can gets maximum points as Arsenal and then Chelsea come after that.

A massive four games coming up - if we can fair well over the next fortnight the treble could be on, but a slip up and it will be gone!

Fulham next Saturday must not be forgotten about as it is sanswiched between two CL games against Chelsea. Then the small matter of citeh at Wembley awaits!

Game on.
