Roon makes it 1-0

Wayne Rooney ended the longest baron spell of his professional career as Manchester United secured an important 3-0 Premier League win over struggling West Ham. The former Everton man broke the deadlock from the penalty spot as United maintained their unbeaten start to the new campaign, with Nani and Dimitar Berbatov both adding spectacular strikes.

The Red Devils cruised to a comfortable victory over the Hammers as United extended their unbeaten start to the new campaign.

Rooney broke the deadlock to the delight of the Old Trafford terraces with a calm penalty before a tremendous Nani strike all-but wrapped up the points.

A fantastic finish from Berbatov on 70 minutes put United three goals in the clear as United heaped more misery on Avram Grant's strugglers.

Ex-Red Jonathan Spector's clumsy challenge on Welshman Ryan Giggs ensured United picked up a 33rd-minute penalty and Rooney, without a goal in so long, slotted the ball beyond Robert Green.

United stepped things up a notch after the interval as West Ham's spoil tactics started to falter. A moment of wizardry doubled the lead on 50 minutes as Nani skipped passed the ineffective Danny Gabbidon and unleashed a left-foot shot into the roof of Green's net.

The goal of the game, however, came with twenty minutes left on the clock. United's relaxed frontman Berbatov met John O'Shea's cross with a tremendous flying volley that oozed world-class quality.

Many supports were heading for the exits soon after a treble substitution from Sir Alex on 74 minutes. Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick and Michael Owen replaced Johnny Evans, Paul Scholes and Berbatov as United went through the motions in the closing stages to seal a fine win.

The result puts United third in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Chelsea after the season's opening three fixtures. West Ham sit bottom of the table without a point and with a miserable minus eight goal difference.

Moment of the game must have been the absolutely inch perfect pass from Giggsy to Nani. Jesus it was just perfect, mind blowing to watch that level of quality.

I've only seen the goals but the Scholes pass to Giggs and his subsequent control in trapping the ball was just awesome

one of my fave bits was when both Scholes and giggsy tackled the WHU player together and emerged with the ball. Scary how badly we still need this two to perform for us this year.

Spot on RL. When the 'kids’ were in their prime I remember a commentator remarking on the fact that the Man U players were hunting in packs just to get the ball back!
