Subject to a work permit, Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Mexican frontman Javier Hernandez. The 21-year-old has agreed personal terms and signed a medical with United and will officially join the club over the summer.

Injuries to Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen have highlighted the need to add fresh attacking talent to United's squad this summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Hernandez as an "exciting young striker" and admits to being delighted that a deal to sign the Mexican has been confirmed.

The player joins the club from Chivas de Guadalajara for an undisclosed fee.

As part of the transfer deal, United have agreed to play as guests for the opening game at the new Chivas Stadium in Guadalajara over pre-season.

Unless he turns out to be a revelation, i'm not impressed.

We need a proven week in week out goal scoring class forward.

Not another "promising young striker".

i think what we need now is a profesional forward not only just a promissing young player..
we have to win all of the match in the rest of this season..

With liverpool for sale they would listen to any sensible offers...

We could give them Berbatov in part exchange!!!(Sm22)

Will this boy prove a good signing?
It seems like he is going to be the fourth striker next season.
Long gone are the days when we had four world class strikers on the books in my opinion.

It seems that Macheda is being tipped as "going to feature a lot next season".

This coupled with Owens lack of fitness, Berba's lack of quality and this lad being a "promising striker" is worrying to say the least.

We had four real good strikers in 99 & look what we achieved. We need four again.Hope I'm wrong but Macheda (goal v Villa in 09 excepted)doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence.Only young - yes, but I just wonder if he has the real class necessary to fill such a key position.
