VDS set to return at Widnes

Edwin van der Sar is expected to make an eagerly anticipated return to action on Tuesday evening for the reserves. The Dutch stopper is expected to be involved as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men take on Everton's second-string at Widnes.

Van Der Sar has been on the sidelines so far this season with a hand injury picked up during pre-season.

With the former Fulham man out of action, Sir Alex Ferguson has opted to give Ben Foster a run of matches in the first-team.

Foster's abilities, however, has come into question after a handful of suspect incidents against Manchester City and Sunderland. He has kept four clean sheets from ten outings this season.

VDS joined United from Fulham for £2million in 2005. He will be hoping that he comes through Tuesday's reserve fixture unscathed and can start planning to build on the 132 league appearances he has made for the club.
