Speculation suggests Manchester United have missed out on transfer target Karim Benzema - with the forward set to join ever-stronger Real Madrid in a £30million move. Sir Alex Ferguson has long been an admirer of Benzema and press reports claimed that the Reds boss would launch a bid for the frontman over the summer.
Lyon have received a bid in the region of £30million for Benzema - with rumours claiming the bid has come from Real Madrid.
Press reports in Spain suggest that Lyon will accept the offer and that the player will soon agree personal terms at the Bernabeu.
The 21-year-old French international has 43 Ligue 1 goals to his name already and has been capped on 24 occasions for the French national team.
If reports of Benzema's impending Madrid move prove accurate, it will prove another blow to Manchester United as preparations begin for the new season. Having parted company with Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo, Ferguson may soon have to contemplate losing out on his primary transfer target.
