Brown could return soon

Wesley Brown could return to United colours for the Reserves on Monday evening. The Stiffs do battle with the Lilywhites in the semi-final of the Lancashire Senior Cup. Brown underwent ankle surgery in November and, apart from a brief return to first-team affairs in January, has been forced to endure a frustrating spell on the sidelines.

The defender is thought to be progressing well in training and Sir Alex has revealed that he may consider including the player in United's reserve-team line-up for Monday's clash at Preston North End.

As United continue in their quest to win an astonishing five major trophies this season, Fergie has been forced to admit that he may "rush back" 29-year-old as the sheer number of games begins to take its toll on the Red Devils squad.

He said: "Wes started training with the first team today, which is great news for us. I'm contemplating playing him in the Reserves on Monday. It's maybe a bit early, but given the time of the season and the importance of the games coming up we may rush him back a little bit. It's a thought for Monday."

Monday's game sees Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's second-string face Preston in the last four of the Lancashire Senior Cup. United, current holders of the 130-year old Cup, will face either Bolton or Blackburn in the final if they advance.
