Clarets 3-2 THFC, 4-6 agg

If away goals counted before extra-time, then Burnley would be preparing for one of the biggest games in their history against Manchester United at Wembley. However, they don’t – and the Clarets were denied a place in the League Cup final by a last-gasp, extra-time double strike from Spurs, securing a 6-4 aggregate win for the North London side.

Burnley, trailing 4-1 from the first-leg, were a whopping 100/1 with some highstreet bookmakers to overturn the three-goal deficit and book a ticket to Wembley.

Owen Coyle's men produced an incredible display to lead the game 3-0 after ninety-minutes - with a wonderful free-kick from the awesome Robbie Blake breaking the deadlock. Chris McCann and Jay Rodriguez found the net after half-time to secure a near-miraculous result for the Turf Moor men.

The game went to extra-time and Burnley were two minutes away from victory - before Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermaine Defoe hit the target in the 118^th and 120^th minute respectively.

It was heartbreak for brave Burnley, with their incredible League Cup run coming to an end in the cruellest possible fashion. The result means United must beat holders Spurs to win the Carling-sponsored trophy on March 1st.
