AIG will not renew their sponsorship deal with Manchester United at the end of the 2009/2010 season. The troubled American insurer pays the club £14million for acting as United’s shirt sponsor – but has recently hit huge financial trouble and has been subject to a $150billion bail-out from the US government.

The American International Group were effectively nationalised in September thanks to a bail out from the US government - meaning George Bush, and now Barrack Obama, are technically shirt sponsors of United!

Unsurprisingly, the company have announced that they will not renew their big-money sponsorship deal with the English, European and world champions.

AIG recently ended their sponsorship deal with the US Davis Cup tennis team, and will no longer see their company's brand name on United's shirts after May 2010.

The insurance firm became United's third shirt sponsors in 2006 - Sharp Electronics first donning the shirts in the 1980s, to be replaced by Vodafone some years later.

Following AIG's effective nationalisation, and Obama's recent inauguration, we've made a quick suggestion for the home jerseys next season:

Not real surprise to be honest. Companies will be desperate to be on our shirt but i think it will be hard to get as good a deal as we had with AIG because of the recession. We will probably tie up a short term deal for less money and hope to get a bigger one when the recession ends.

What would we all like to see on the shirt, regardless of the company's wealth?

I'd quite like Boddingtons across the shirt, Mini Cooper or Lucozade across the shirt.

Or preferably nothing at all, like FC....!

am sad. i liked AIG looked better than vodafone i thot. i here we are approaching an indian firm and it seems intent so i can only expect a fair deal if not the same as AIG, because the asians dont seem to care about the recession look at citeh!

you lot will be suprised at the end of the season when you collect your sponsorship money to find that a lot of the board sponsors will have entered administration.

My company underwrites for Retail and business insurance and without naming I can confirm you are in for further shocks and sponsors who wont commit further next season.

the recession will include players too and suddenly players in europe can earn just as much as in the uk because of the power of the euro against the gbp.

do you also know that you owe £180m dollars which has increased to 250m because of the weakness of the pound against the dollar now.

all is outsourced to german funding too, so uk admninistration laws wont count so if any monies are unpaid, all assets are sold.

bottom line being........ if more companies cut spending, money and wages will not be there anymore.


you will need to win champs league 3 times in a row to remainm stable in these times.

what type of money is pound-dollars

na u dont sound like a company man, fan more like a leeds fan.
on the record we dont care what the companies are calculating now, the fact is there has been interest in man utd in Asia brewing, so as far as shirts is concerned i am not worried manutd will find a sponser by the summer for next season or for 2010 when the contract runs out.

not bad considering 5 years ago we were £650 million in debt. If its down to £180 million or £250 million thats really impressive. All the banks care about is can we meet our debt repayments and if our friend from Leeds is right, then in 5 years we have cleared at least £400 million pound. Not bad going, so by his calculations this time next year we will be as rich as City.

just realise that the world (now in recession) cant afford to go to every match, buy 4 shirts a season, and your debt to german banks set by glazer is now a lot more because currencies are weaker.

although its funny to say "look a leeds fan advising on debt"

if you lost your job and home because your company had shut, would you still be able to afford the 28 quid a month to watch your beloved man u on sky??

and to the business men. dont you think the corporate hospitality will suffer?

sure it will.

and people like ronaldo soon will get sick of all his savings getting no interest, his house worth a lot less, his bills going up, his house gettin g robbed by people on the breadline - lots of factors.

this is just the start.

in the next 3 years glazer is counting on winning champions league twice to remain solvent.

last year you made a loss when including transfers,and you won the champions league.

and you still need to sign tevez and pay the remaining payments on nani and anderson.

time will tell.

na you need to calm down, its not the first time there has been a reccession. there are victims in the recession,sure, but i can assure you man utd are not going to meet the end you are describing.

the worst that i can see is man utd cutting back on tranfers for a couple of summers starting with tevez which i believe will happen, not this armageddon you are imagining.

Remember there a lot of companies surviving out there,manutd are one of them, they are far too valuable to die just like that
